Renewed Recovery for a New Year
Renewed Recovery for a New Year
Oftentimes, we meet clients who are aware of their challenges, eager to overcome them, but just have no idea where to begin. It is a wonderful feeling when we are able to partner with an individual in finding the right resources for his/her unique needs, and see the fruits of our labor when we receive positive news of ongoing recovery. With the new year upon us and prayers for a better world abounding, these cases feel even more poignant and meaningful
Meir*, married for over 20 years with 9 children, called seeking our help with a complex history of sexual addiction and marital struggles, yearning for guidance, a fresh perspective, and hope for a better future. Our case manager conducted a full intake and discovered that Meir has been in recovery for several years, but no longer feels comfortable or safe with his support group or sponsor. The physical isolation created by the COVID pandemic was less than ideal for motivating him to find new therapeutic assistance.
But recently, Meir began experiencing feelings of numbness and disassociation from his family and life; he feels alone and unsure of what triggered this new crisis, and called Amudim based on a close friend’s suggestion, desperate for help in processing through these issues and restarting the healing process.
Meir clearly wants to be more present as a father and husband, but had no idea where to begin. Our case manager immediately referred him to a local therapist trained in both trauma and addiction, and Meir began treatment; after a month, he already reports feeling a renewed sense of hope in himself and the possibility that he can once again lead a happy and healthy life.
We at Amudim know all too well what can happen when someone feels alone and helpless; if you or a loved one needs guidance or support, please reach out. We are here to help.
There’s No Place Like Home
Each week, Amudim fields calls covering a wide range of crises and addressing various human concerns, including addiction, depression, abuse, health and domestic emergencies and many others. We track the calls and breakdown of issues for many reasons, foremost of which is to consistently improve and strengthen our knowledge and ability to address community’s needs.
Since the beginning of the COVID-19 pandemic, Amudim has assisted hundreds of community members with arranging safe emergency travel to Israel, primarily for funerals and medical-related matters, as well as for students. We have updated our website to provide updated information and guidelines for all types of travel to Israel.
